Go Blog Social // Chicago

At the end of October I got the chance to attend the Go Blog Social Conference in Chicago. And now, a month later, I’m finally getting around to telling you about it. Better late than never, right? It was great – I got to meet some amazing Chicago bloggers, and I learned a lot and so I’m going to share. 🙂

  1. Set Networking Goals. If you’re anything like me, the thought of a room full of strangers who might talk to you is terrifying. Seriously anxiety inducing. However, I discovered if I set little goals for myself it gets a lot  easier. Don’t feel like you have to talk to the full room, but just 4 people (or 2…). That’s way more doable.
  2. Everyone Has Doubts. I noticed a common trend listening to the speakers all day. No one just sails through life. Even the bloggers who appear to have it all figured out and under control struggled to get there. Felt insecure, had breakdowns. No ones journey is perfect or easy. I think that’s an important thing to remember – all of us need a cheerleader or a helping hand from time to time, and that’s ok.
  3. Be Persistent. Piggy backing off point 2 – don’t give up. Sticking with it might be the most important part of success. If you love what you’re doing keep doing it.
  4. Perfection is the Enemy.  I struggle with this. I want things (ie – blog posts) to be 100% perfect and wonderful before I’m happy with the results, and if I can’t get to perfect I don’t hit publish. I can’t tell you how many half done posts I have as drafts. Or that I never start because of some irrational fear of being wrong. You have to start to get anywhere!!
  5. There’s Room for Everyone. This is my favorite lesson. There’s room for all of us. There’s no need for bloggers to be jealous or mean to each other – we’re all just doing what we love, and we should celebrate each other for that. I heard it over and over – and it was so refreshing, because I always have the little voice in my head telling me to just give up because there are already so many “fashion bloggers” out there. That’s no reason to stop. 🙂

OK – so! Those are my lessons, which I am going to try very hard to take to heart.

New Year // Commitments & Clichés

It’s that time of year again – the time when we all start promising to make changes, to grow and improve (oh wait, I already did that…)! And even though it is a cliche, there’s something nice about making big plans and dreaming up new goals and schemes.

I already got off to a little bit of a head start with my new plans for the blog, but I thought it might be nice to think about a few other goals too.

1. Do more crafts: I’ve always loved arts and crafts. As a kid I was constantly working on some sort of DIY project. This past year I started getting back into it a little (having a Michael’s Craft Store open up only a few blocks away certainly helped) and it’s a trend a want to continue in 2015.

2. Journal again: Also something I did a lot as a kid (pretty much every night!), but have fallen out of practice with as a grown-up. I want to start again, not every night, but somewhat regularly! There’s something about putting pen to paper that I find amazingly therapeutic – maybe it’s just the lack of red zig-zag lines telling me I’ve spelled every other word incorrectly. 😉

3. Stick to an exercise program: OK – this one is a super cliché. But I have to say it. I NEED to do it. I’m not talking anything ground breaking either – I don’t want to run a marathon. My goal is to just be regular about it – I’d be happy with doing yoga twice a week.

4. Make more plans: So – with all the crafting and journaling and yoga I want to be doing this year – I’m not really sure when I’ll have time for more plans, but I want to try! And, yes “plans” is very broad – that’s on purpose – could be as simple as happy hour with a friend (or maybe, yoga with a friend!!) OR it could be bigger – like weekend getaways!

5. Blog: Blog, blog, blog, blog, blog. I want to blog enough this year that I can have a “2015 Recap” post this time next year. I want to collaborate and network more – so I’m not just living in my own little blog bubble. I want to stick to my plan. And I want to be proud of my work and excited to share it. That’s big issue for me – I’ll put together a post, but then I won’t share it anywhere  because I’m scared of what people will think. Big goal for 2015 is to get over that anxiety!!

So that’s my list for 2015! Are you the resolution making type? What do you want to accomplish this year?

By The Sea Shore // Spring Lake

Sometimes there’s nothing better than a weekend at the beach… with puppies. Last weekend we were only there for a day and half – but next weekend my BF and I are heading to Spring Lake, NJ for 4 whole days. That’s right – 4 days of beach!! Magical.

You might recognize my pup Louis in these pics- the other 2 are my BF’s parents dogs – Rocky and Ellie.

PS – Happy Shark Week!

Le Fleur

If you follow me on Pinterest you’ve probably noticed my new obsession – flowers. More specifically – wedding flowers (mostly as those are most prevalent over on Pinterest…) There’s just something so creative and artistic about floral arrangements – I can’t get enough!

Maybe I’ll take up floristry as a hobby, is that a thing?? I mean – I made the wildflower bouquets for Kelsey’s wedding, clearly I’m a pro at this 😉

Coming Soon…

It may seem a little bit late to start sharing New Year’s resolutions… and I’m not – per-say – they are more like goals! Blog goals! I’m not sure that I have had real goals for the blog, so this is exciting!

Goal #1 – A look that I Love. I’ve been tinkering with the design of Chicasaurus-Rex for a few years now, but I’ve never been 100% happy with it. SO – this year I’ve been working on ideas for a new design, taking what I love about the blog currently but still mixing things up. Here’s the inspiration:

Goal #2 – Be consistent. At least, MORE consistent  I’m not saying that I am going to post everyday of the week, but I want to have some sort of regular schedule. 2 posts a week seems like a decent goal to me. More if I am feeling up to it – but at least 2 a week!
Goal # 3 – Network, network, network!! At least, on-line…. I want to find the time to read other blogs, and leave comments! I’m always upset that I don’t get many comments on my blog, but I NEVER {ok, almost never} leave comments on other blogs – so why should people comment on mine? This year I’m going to spread the love!!
That’s just a little taste….! Can’t wait to get the new design up and running! Happy 2013 all!

McKayla Maroney Is Not Amused

Alright, here’s McKayla with her silver medal. She’s upset with herself for falling on her second vault and therefore not getting the gold.
LOOK AT HER FACE. I love it. Usually I hate when athletes aren’t happy with silver – but McKayla I can forgive, because this is the most amazing face ever.
Further, she has inspired several Memes. Which may be even better than a gold….
I think I am going to start adding her to all of my posts.

Some Exciting News {and minty walls!}

OK kids – I have some big exciting news! I’m moving!
For the last 4 years I’ve lived with my sister and her boyfriend/fiance/husband {all the same guy, ps ;)} in an apartment in northern Manhattan. But in 2 months I’m moving Downtown {well, technically to Midtown… but anything is downtown when compared to 181st st…}
This means several exciting things:

1. I’ll be abel to WALK to work!
2. I’ll have a back yard {hello garden parties!}
3. I’ll get to decorate! {= tons of inspo in Pinterest & a few more decor posts that usual!}
Ready to dive in? Let’s start with my new love of mint colored walls. They’re pretty and fun – but soothing at the same time. And they look glam when paired with gold, white, and pink…

What do you think? Mint walls, yay or nay??

Playing Catch Up

Eee! Life has been so go – go – go lately I’ve hardly had time to blog. Here are just a few quick things I wish I had time to say more about (you’ll have to use your imagination…)

The Elie Saab Couture show was BEYOND amazing. BEYOND.
Kate Middleton looked super chic at Wimbledon. (ok, ok – nothing new here)
I mean, what can I say about this? There are no words.
!!! Only 2 weeks left to wait! #USA #USA

Just a peek at the past week in Instagram pics…

Sunsets, beach fires, hot dogs and fireworks over the lake. It’s been a perfect Northern Michigan vacation. (if only it could last forever…)
