Red Carpet

Emmys 2015 // Classic Chic

I totally forgot about the Emmys, and so missed watching the red carpet coverage (I was at Trader Joe’s, such glamour). Luckily the internet exists.

There were many, many lovely ladies who walked the red carpet in bright, sparkly gowns. But I was more drawn to the long, black dress trend. Something about the simple, classic glamour feels really right.

Also, really loving Amy Poehler’s darker hair.

The other nice thing about a classic black dress? Much easier to find a copy-cay look ūüėČ

Oscars 2015 // Best Dressed

I wanted to start this post with a little re-cap of the ladies I imaginary¬†styled for Sunday’s big event. With the exception of Felicity¬†Jones, I am happy to report I would place them all on the best-dressed list!

Oscars-2015a

Resse Witherspoon was stunning in a black and white Tom Ford gown, not even close to what I picked, but I’ll forgive her. Sienna Miller picked a black¬†Oscar de la Renta dress, and looked¬†just gorgeous. Jen was in a nude Atelier Versace number that was probably more stunning the the one I picked for her. I was NOT a huge fan of¬†Felicity¬†Jones’ Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen ball gown – but she did look amazing – and so happy!!

NEXT – Emma Stone. I wanted Emma to wear a beaded black Elie Saab dress with short sleeves – she opted for a beaded chartreuse Elie Saab dress with long sleeves.

SOOOOO close. I have to say, I’m glad she did. She looked stunning.

Bonus pic of Jen and Emma, because they are amazing.

AND NOW. KEIRA.

YOU GUYS –¬†remember how I said that my predictions have never been right??? Well, I broke the losing streak Sunday night because Keira Knightly wore the¬†Valentino dress I picked for her. ¬†And it looked just as dreamy and whimsical as I wanted it to. AHH!

Keira-Knightley-Oscars-2015

As if that was not enough – she also wore a black¬†Valentino gown to the Vanity Fair after party that I’d had on my wish list!! AHHH again!!

Not many of my other wish-list picks made appearances – but Faith Hill was a knock out in J. Mendel (from my list!)

Faith-Hill-oscar-2015Beyond that I’d put Gwyneth Paltrow, Rosamund Pike, Zoe Saldana, and Anna Kendrick at the top of my best dressed list.

Oscar Predictions // Best Dressed

Only one more day until we get to see which dresses make the red carpet cut at the Oscars! One of my very favorite things to do is predict who will wear what, and which designers will score red carpet placement. ¬†I’ve never been right… ¬†but I have gotten CLOSE (ish) !! Might as well keep trying, right?

So, here’s what I’d like to see tomorrow!

Sienna Miller has been killing it on the red carpet lately – so I have total faith she’ll be one of this year’s best dressed. I would love to see her in this feathered¬†Elie Saab gown – it’s elegant but still a little edgy 100% Oscar material.

Oscar-looks-1

I think Reese would look amazing in this gown from¬†Carolina Herrera’s Fall 2015 collection, I love the printed skirt, it adds a little something extra to a classic silhouette¬†– plus Reese would look amazing in that blue!

Speaking of classic, Felicity Jones favors sophisticated, elegant red carpet looks Рand always looks awesome in them. Fingers crossed she picks this navy and purple Oscar de la Renta gown tomorrow night.

Oscar-looks-4

Jennifer Aniston has been a HUGE fan of the plunging neck-line this season, and she tends to stick with black dresses, my pick for her is this sparkly Naeem Khan number.

Kiera is a little less predictable when it comes to red carpet fashion – but she does often choose whimsical dressed¬†– which is why I think she might be able to pull off this look from¬†the Valentino couture collection. It’s a little risky, but I think she could make it work.

Oscar-looks-2

Miss Stone is a big red carpet risk taker, but I’d like to see her go a little more traditional for the Oscar’s – not totally traditional of course! But I think she’d make every best dressed list in this sparkly/sheer Elie Saab dress!!

With the Fall 15 runway shows going on right now, I’ve also spotted a few color trends that I’l love to see come to life on the red carpet. Ice blue dresses (think Cinderella blue, magical!), sparkly navy and art-deco inspired metallics are poised to have a big night tomorrow.

I also think we’ll see a lot of classics – black, white and gold. And there’s a change that peach and mustard colors could be a break out hit!

I CAN’T WAIT!!

Red Carpet // Makeup

This is a BIG week – Oscar week!! I’ve always loved the Oscars, mainly for the red carpet. ¬†I know I am not alone in my love of red carpet fashion, but there really is something so exciting about it. Seeing who takes big risks, who plays it safe and who debuts a new style is,¬†strangely,¬†a lot of fun.

Sadly, I can’t play dress up with Oscar gowns to recreate my favorite styles. That being said –¬†I can recreate makeup looks!!

Full disclosure – I know very little about makeup. I’m a basics girl day-to-day. But this is the year for trying new things, so when¬†Borghese sent me a box full of Red Carpet Ready makeup, I thought, why not?

So, without further ado, here are 3 of my favorite Oscar looks from the last few years, and my attempts to re-create them.

I started each look with my normal base layer (base layer? is that a makeup term?) Which is:

And then I built each look on top of that!

How to Dress // Emma at the Met Gala

There were more gorgeous, glamorous ball gowns at the Met Gala last night than I could count {not really, I could if I wanted too, I swear!!} but we’ll get to those later. Right now I want to talk about little miss Emma Stone, because how chic does she look?

Her rather low-key Thakoon two-piece might be a shade too casual for some, but I adore the simplicity of it. And her messy side braid is the perfect style to complete the look.

I love how accessible this look is {arguably that is not the point of the Met Ball – but it is the point of this blog!!} it would be an amazing get-up for a summer wedding, or even a fancy brunch, don’t you think?

The Academy Awards // Fashion Nominees

Let’s cut to the chase here, on the surface the Oscar’s claim to be all about movies – but we all know the truth, they’re really about the fashion. And when it comes to big wins, the biggest always come on the red carpet. This year there are dozens of amazing gowns just dying to make the cut, dreaming of their moment in the spotlight, their shot at making the best best-dressed list. So, here we go – my nominees for the best dresses for the red carpet event of the year:

Jenny Packham
A favorite of my favorite, Princess Kate, Jenny Packham has some gorgeous, girly offerings for the red carpet. I can’t decide which of these looks I like best: the classic but bold crimson number, or one of the more playful nude-illusion looks, can you?
Marchesa
A staple of red carpet season, Marchesa always makes just about every best-dressed list, and with the gowns being offered-up here I can’t see this year being an exception. I love the idea of a mustard colored dress for the Oscars – it’s like liquid gold, like you melted an Oscar statue and decided to wear it, chic. Also, I’m pretty sure that if Meryl Davis was going she’d totally wear that middle look.
Prabal Gurung
Alright, here’s the deal. These are a little risky. But – just a little. Is a cut-out canceled out by a turtle neck? Maybe. Does that make it it more or less risque? Either way, that element of intrigue has me itching to see these beauties on the red carpet.
Elia Saab
Elie Saab has always designed show stoppers, some that are safe and others that have that Oscar edge. This white one-sleeved peplum look – perfection! A Fuchsia ball gown, where else are you going to wear that if it’s not to the Oscars??
Oscar de la Renta
Someone will always wear Oscar to the Oscars. Here are my 2014 nominees for the big night. I adore the playfulness of these 2 gowns. They still have a classic sophistication but they are also fun, and I think we should have a little more fun on the red carpet, because why not??
Monique Lhuillier
And the award for best drama goes to… these stunners. If (who am I kidding, WHEN) someone steps on to the red carpet in either of these she will instantly make every best dressed list. These are like the Titanic of dresses (b/c of all the Oscars Titanic won, not b/c of any ice bergs…). You can try to argue with me, but you will be wrong.
Armani Privé
These babies tend to be controversial because of their slightly over-the-top nature. But I think my selection here have some great potential – if styled correctly. Keep it simple and let the dress steal the show. I have a feeling that The Fashion Police will brand the dress on the right a “figure skating costume gone wrong” but I really thing that on the right person it could totally work. (That’s 2 figure skating references in 1 blog post, too much??)
So there you have it. Do you think any of these beauties will make the cut? Who do you think will wear them? (4 days until we find out!! eeeek!!)

SAG Awards // Best Dressed

If the Golden Globe’s red carpet was all about metallic and neutrals the SAG awards were all about jewel tones. Bold, bright and GORGEOUS.  And there’s something I really love about how blues and greens look contrasted against the red of the carpet.

Golden Globes // Looks to Love

Question – is the caliber of red carpet looks declining? Or am I just getting harder to impress?
No one really stunned me at the Golden Globes last night. There were a lot of very pretty people – but no real WOWs. Maybe they’re all saving up to blow me away at the Oscars. (because, yes, all of Hollywood lives to impress ME, duh.)

Here’s Emma in Dior. A frequent member of the Hall of Chic, from the front she looks FAB, from the back things get a little WTF-ish. But there’s a part of me that really likes it anyway. Hey – it’s a risk isn’t it?

Michelle Dockery (always a red carpet favorite of mine) wore Oscar de la Renta, looked perfect. Does anything else need to be said about this lady??
And in the category for most surprising – Julianna Margulies looked amazing and Jennifer Lawrence confused me. (usually I would say the opposite…)

Who did you think looked best last night??

Oscar Wish List

I am practically giddy with¬†excitement¬†for this weekend – Why? You might ask, well I’ll tell you.
IT’S THE OSCARS!
That’s right ladies and gentlemen the¬†Academy¬†Awards are upon us. Some people predict who will win the gold statues, I however predict red carpet dresses. This year there are some very fashionable ladies nominated and red carpet¬†coverage¬†is sure to be thrilling!
Miss Lawrence has been rocking a lot, a LOT of Dior on the red carpet¬†lately. So I think it’s safe to say we’ll see her in another from the French¬†design¬†house at the Oscars.
I’d love to see Jennifer in option one with a slight alteration – a full length skirt. And option two would look amazing styled with statement heels and a bright necklace.
The magnificent Jessica Chastain tends to stick with simple¬†silhouettes, but she doesn’t shy away from color. My Oscar picks for her take this into¬†consideration¬†– but kick things up a little, it is the Oscar’s after all…
Option one from Marchesa’s fall collection has classic lines, but the¬†embroidery¬†and draping add mega drama. Option two is an Elie Saab dream – she can totally rock the plunging neck line, and the color would look stunning with her red locks!
And moving on to Anne. Oh Anne! Ever since her Les Mis pixie cut Miss Hathaway has been keeping her red carpet looks simple and chic. But she’s also been one to take risks in the past, so maybe she will again for the Oscars?
Not much of a risk – Option One sticks to the simple look she’s been wearing, but brings a lot of color and sparkle. Option two however might be my #1 favorite – pants under fab full skirt with a glittery bodice? YES PLEASE!

That was fun, yes? Goody. I have a whole list of other dresses I want to see on the Red Carpet, maybe I’ll share that soon. ūüėČ

Inspired By // BAFTA Brights

My favorite ladies hit the red carpet again last night for the BAFTAs. Jessica Chastain looked beyond amazing in a bring blue Roland Mouret gown and Marion Cotillard was stunning in bright yellow Dior.
Taking a cue from these lovely ladies, here’s some bright yellow & blue inspiration!
