Red Carpet

Chic(s) of the Week

The White House Correspondent’s Dinner was last Saturday {so, yes… this is more like the Chic of Last Week… deal} & a few ladies really stood out on the red carpet. Miss Zooey Deschanel in Oscar de la Renta and Leslie Mann in a stunning floral frock by Naeem Kahn.

How to Rock the Red Carpet

I could really have summed this post up with just the first picture. Gwyneth in Tom Ford = perfection. It’s simple, glamorous, understated… and there’s a cape. A CAPE. So chic. She kills me.

You’ll notice a theme in my best dressed choices – a lack of bling. I love that these ladies chose to let the gowns do all the talking and kept the diamonds understated.

Oh – and Mila in Elie Saab? Amazing. Oh, and as I am obsessed with Elie Saab, here are a couple more lovely ladies rocking his glittery gowns:
Who has your vote for best dressed? I’m for Gwyneth – 100%.

Red Carpet Winners – SAG Edition

It’s always a little hard to watch the Red Carpet at awards shows – the bright LA sun reminding us how dark and cold NYC is, the painfully obnoxious TV hosts asking inane questions… sigh. But, it’s all worth it for the fashion – isn’t it?

And luckily we got a few stunners durring last night’s show… here are my picks for best dressed of the SAG Awards!

a – Rose Byrn in Elie Saab {Jumpsuit YES!} // b – Julie Bowen in Temperley London // c – Viola Davis in Marchesa //
d – Emma Stone in Alexander McQueen // e – Michelle Williams in Valentino // f – Emily Blunt in Oscar de la Renta

Go Go Globes!

AH the Golden Globes. Always a fun night for fashion {and TV and film too I suppose…} But, as usual, I’ve seen hardly any of the movies and shows that were nominated. Oh well – the red carpet is always the best part of the evening anyway…

We saw lots of reds and peachy nudes stroll down the carpet – from top left:
Emma Stone in Lanvin // Dianna Agron in Giles // Reese Witherspoon in Zac Posen // Sarah Hyland in vintage Dolce & Gabbana // Julie Bowen in Reem Acra // Katharine McPhee in custom Donna Karan
And I was loving Claire Danes’ graphic black and white number by J. Mendel – as well as Zooey Deschanel’s Prada gown – although I would have liked it more if she’s pulled back her hair…

Rooney, Roony, Rooney, Charlize, Charlize, Charlize. What more can I say about these two – in Nina Ricci and Dior, respectively.

I also adored the soft sparkly numbers we saw on several stars, as well as the drama Evan Rachel Wood brought with FEATHERS.

That’s right – the most magical time of the year has arrived. Are you ready for it? I know I am! These short, dak winter days are such mood killers – I am in dire need of some Red Carpet sparkle to brighten things up!

So here we go – People’s Choice! Lots of green, cream, and pink {yayness – all favorites!}

1 // Nina Dobrev in Elie Saab 2 // Chloe Moretz in Proenza Schouler 3 // Emma Stone in Gucci 4 // Lea Michele in Marchesa 5 // Ginnifer Goodwin in Roksanda Ilincic 6 // Miley Cyrus in David Koma

And last night’s Critic’s Choice Awards brought us sunny yellow and glamorous black and white gowns…
7 // Diane Kruger in Prada 8 // Elle Fanning in Rodarte 9 // Elizabeth Olsen in Emilio Pucci 10 // Evan Rachel Wood in Valentino 11 // Michelle Williams in Chanel 12 // Charlize Theron in Alaia

Which is your favorite look so far? One of these, or a different one? Let me know in the comments!

A Color Story

One thing I love about fall – the colors! Growing up in California I never really got to experience fall fully. But in New York? Wow. Plus – on top of all that natural color – add the bring red color trend (as seen full force at the Emmy’s) of the fashion world and you get a very VERY colorful season…

Oscar Predictions- 2011

When it comes to the Oscars, we are genuinely obsessed- with the awards show itself and with the red carpet. In fact, for every time one of us re-works the Oscar prediction ballot, we both will obsess over the fall and spring lines three times more. Who are you wearing? How are you styled? How can we critique you? We’ll pop some prosecco and pretend we are Joan and Melissa Rivers (and we will be… someday). We are the queens of fashion, as far as our living-room is concerned, and a camera might as well be on us, nit-picking every last hair curl.
Recently we’ve mastered the red carpet entrance. From the second our “celebs-to-watch” exit their limos, clutches in hand, we yell out the designer. “Oh of course she’s in Oscar de la Renta… again YAWN.” “Is that Marc Jacobs?” “That has to be vintage Chanel.” And off we go. It might be our favorite part of the show. Actually, I think it’s safe to say that it definitely is. Two hours into the awards and we’re still tweeting about how ridiculous Jennifer Lopez looks… again. So, here are our Oscar predictions 2011.. and no, I don’t mean Natalie Portman taking home the little gold man.
Anne Hathaway, Oscars, Red Carpet Dresses
We’re pretty obsessed with Naeem Kahn, how could you not be? And Anne needs to pull out all the stops for her hosting gig- after her Armani Prive at the Golden Globes the bar is set pretty high. Sparkly bodice, feathered skirt? We’re sold. Anne- you should be too.
Amy Adams, Claire Danes, Oscar Red Carpet, Monique Lhuillier, Temperley London
Claire Danes (top), was an all-time favorite at the SAGs. That Louis Vuitton gown was breathtaking– both on video and in stills. In fact, she has failed to disappoint this year. This Monique Lhuillier stunner, fresh off the Fall 2011 runway, would lock her in as fashion icon of this awards season.
Amy Adams is always willing to take a risk, and it doesn’t always pan out. Last year she blended with the carpet a little too much- we’re pulling for her to go for contrast this year, in Temperley London.
Sandra Bullock, Oscars Red Carpet, Jason Wu, 2011
Oh Sandra, America’s sweetheart. She will definitely be at the show this year, to present the new Best Actress trophy. But what will she wear? Sandra’s been all over the place recently- in life and in clothing. And we’ve decided that she should be dressed by Jason Wu for the big night. We both lost it when we saw this work of art come down the runway.
Mila Kunis, Michelle Williams, Red Carpet, Jason Wu, Naeem Khan 2011
We’re putting Mila Kunis (top) in a knock-out by Naeem Khan. Mostly because we love the dress and NEED someone to wear it. But also because she’d look pretty damn good in it.
Next up, Michelle Williams. Lately she seems to enjoy dresses that look like they should be worn only by girls under the age of 12- her Golden Globes frock was a prime example- We think this Jason Wu dress will give her the look she loves and turn her back into the the red-carpet queen we love.
Natalie Portman, Red Carpet, Oscars, Dior, Rodarte, Lanvin, 2011
And Natalie. All eyes will be on her- and she knows it. She’s been playing it chic this year, and deviating from her normal love affair with Rodarte. So we picked this feathered Dior number for her, might as well make it painfully clear what she got the nom for, yes? And a baby bump, the hollywood hot accessory of 2011, would compliment this dress beautifully.
What do you think of our Oscar predictions this year? What are yours?

Shoe Crush- Olivia Wilde

OK guys- you all watched the Golden Globe Red Carpet, yes? Maybe you’ve seen some of my thoughts, here and here? I have a confession, I’ve been holding back. My real love was not of a dress, not of a trend, not of a surprise pop color- but of a pair of shoes. YOU SAW THEM RIGHT?

Don’t let Olivia’s fab Marchesa gown distract you with its sparkles- LOOK AT HER SHOES. Those are Christian Louboutin Bridget’s Back Ankle Booties and they are my new shoe crush (seriously, head over heels…)

If I ever get married I will wear them for my wedding- even if I have to build a time machine to travel back to last Sunday and steal them off Miss Wilde’s feet, I’LL DO IT– And please keep in mind that I’ve always been drawn to short wedding dresses.
That works, right?? It’s going to happen.

Emmy Best

I love award shows–well, at least the red carpet.
1- to see everyone get all dressed up,
2- to hear what everyone else thinks of them.
I always like the risk takers and I’m usually alone in my support of the wild frocks- but really- the dresses are made to be worn, no?

I wouldn’t toss one of those on to attend a wedding or cocktail party- but why not rock it on the red carpet?
