New York Fashion Week // JOANNA MASTROIANNI

“The organic brilliant architecture of Gaudi is my vision for Spring 2014. My admiration for his innovative use of materials and engineering inspired me to create a flirty, seductive and playful collection. It was a labor of love to translate his great works of architecture into something feminine, contemporary and most importantly wearable.” – JOANNA MASTROIANNI

So I’ll admit, I’d never really paid attention to Joanna Mastroianni before I got the invite to her Spring show. But now? I am officially obsessed. Not only does she have a fluffy Pom that walks the runway at the end of her shows, but her collection is glamorous, yet funky (hello – chic and glamorous meet funky fresh!!!???!!) Adore.

Like she says in her quote, her Spring collection was inspired by the curvy and colorful architecture of Gaudi. If you haven’t seen his work – take a look – she totally nails it. Have I said I love it yet? I love it!

Elegance with attitude. Obsessed.

DESIGUAL // Backstage

This is my 6th season covering NYFW (wait – how did THAT happen??) but it’s the very first season I’ve gone behind-the-scenes. It’s sort of amazing to watch the models come in and get transformed into the designer’s vision…

I loved the chance to be backstage at Desigual with Pantene* stylist Danilo. Here’s a little peek:

The polka-dots and that yellow jacket are my faves!

Fall Color Trends // Red

You may be surprised to hear this – but it’s almost August. That’s right kids, the first 2 months of Summer are quickly becoming a thing of the past as we barrel towards fall. FALL. Are you ready for that? I mean – can you even remember what we saw come down the runways in February? Hard right?

Lucky for you – I’m here to help. Starting with color trends (which are a lot easier to think about in July than jackets, scarves and tights…) Let’s start easy. Red. Really, really, red. We’re already seeing Hollywood embrace the bright hue – expect to see a lot more if it come fall.

These ladies wear red right – mixing it w/ black and white so the color really pops and makes a bold statement.

From The Runway // ACHTLAND

We all spend so much time obsessing over Fashion Week – in New York, London, Paris and Milan – we (or at least I) tend to forget there are other places around the world showing some pretty amazing fashion.

Take, for example, Berlin. (and maybe you remember my peek at Australia!)
Here we have a new designer on the Berlin scene, ACHTLAND. Oliver Lühr, Creative Director says, “ACHTLAND is intended to encapsulate the tension that arises in the play of opposites: for example in the formal elegance of a Victorian dress shirt paired with the femininity of silk-georgette or the strong architectonic silhouette found in our evening dresses.”

I think this tension is rather clear in their S/S 14 collection – a fun mix of girly details with boxy, structured pieces. I kinda love it.

In case you aren’t a fan yet – the label is named after Queen Achtland, a figure from Irish-Celtic mythology. Born mortal, she was dissatisfied by the choice of mortal men, so she elevated herself to goddess status by marrying a god.

Dreamy Details // Matthew Williamson

In the middle of a vast desert, hot sands stretching out for miles and miles in every direction – you’ll find an oasis. A magical haven of peace, beauty and, well, chicness – because this oasis is Matthew Williamson’s Resort 14 collection. Dreamy beaded details complement desert inspired flora prints, creating a fresh, flirty collection.

Welcome to Chictopia. Why don’t you stay a while?

The Queen of Chic?

I’m here today to put forth a bold statement: Carolina Herrera is the Queen of Chic.
As evidence I submit her Resort 2014 collection. You be the judge:

…So, maybe it wasn’t such a bold statement after-all.

Toni Maticevski // SS 13/14

Time for a quick geography/science lesson. Australia is located in the Southern Hemisphere – when it’s winter here it’s summer down under – this means while Northerners show Fall 13 collections Aussie designers send Spring/Summer 13/14 looks down the runways.

But, I bet you knew that already.

What you might not have know is that Toni Maticevski is a genius {or maybe you did – but I didn’t…} I didn’t, that is, until I found myself browsing his latest collection on Vogue Australia’s site.

Get ready for a journey through beautifully draped fabrics, sculpted into gorgeous flowing gowns. When I dream about fashion, this is what it looks like.

Lauren // Ralph Lauren

I think it is now, finally, safe to say that Spring is officially here. The days are longer than the nights, the high temp broke 60 in NYC yesterday and above all – baseball season has begun.

So let’s dive right in to Spring style!!

A couple weeks ago I attended the first ever runway show for Lauren Ralph Lauren – a fabulous fete at the Hearst Tower here in NYC.

I’m gonna be honest here – this line is pretty much the inspiration for everything I will wear this Spring. Everything. Everyday. Everywhere.

Dots, stripes and blazers. Done AND done.

What do you think? Actually – does it matter? Since I’m wearing everything everyday… find your own collection. 😉

Cozy Fashion // NYFW

Oh goody! Here is a trend that I adore. Cozy, chunky sweaters with everything! Mini-skirts, full length skirts and at Rafael Cennamo – AS skirts!

I’m very excited about this. I am 100% behind wearing sweaters every single day.

Rafael Cennamo photos by me.
What do you think of the sweater skirt? I would LOVE to see someone wear it on the red carpet….

KMidd & A Fashion GIF

Get ready Chicasaurs, it’s time for a quick look at Alexander McQueen’s Pre-Fall collection… don’t blink! {kidding – you’re allowed to blink, it’ll play again ;)}
Thoughts, comments, concerns?

I love the colors and patterns and I’m drooling over the leather trim vest…. but I’m not sure the collection is Princess approved, I supposed Miss Kate gets to make her own alterations the pieces. We’ve seen her lengthen sleeves and do away with sheer paneling. BUT I’d DIE to see her in a pair of patterned pants…
