Pretty Little Things

I really don’t need to use the holidays as an excuse to wear extra glitz & bangles… I pretty much do that on a daily basis… but Elva Fields‘ holiday collection is so beyond pretty it warrants its own post!

These pieces are perfect – you could use them to dress up your LBD or and a little jazzy to a basic sweater… Dear Santa, one of each please!

The past few days have been surreal. A week ago I was taking pictures at a rehearsal dinner
Tonight I’m watching a telethon raising money to help MY city…
I am lucky enough to live in an apartment that never lost power. My roommates and I put out the call to our friends – inviting anyone from “SoPo” {south of power} to seek refuge with us. For the last 5 days we’ve had a full house. At first it felt like an extended Sunday Funday – but slowly the reality of why they were all there sank in. We saw images of lower Manhattan that you would think came out of a movie.
Today we watched the Con Edison twitter feed as they announced which neighborhoods had power back on, cheering and dancing for each one – not because we were sick of each other – but because each light that came back one was another step towards returning our city to life…
I’ve been truly amazed by New York the past few days. People with power running extension cords with power stripes into their front yards to share with those who had none. Gyms opening their doors to anyone in need of a hot shower. Everyone jumping at any opportunity to volunteer or lend a hand… I love you New York – now more than ever.
Thanks to my co-worker for this list of ways to help:
Red Cross
All donations will provide shelter, food, emotional support and other assistance to those affected by the storm. To donate, visit http://www.redcross.org, call 800-Red-Cross or text the word “Redcross” to 90999 to make a $10 donation.
NY Blood Center
Nearly 100 Red Cross blood drives were canceled because of Sandy, so blood supplies are low in the areas affected the most.  The New York Blood Center is urging people to donate blood for those in the New York/New Jersey area. To donate, call 800-933-2566 or visit http://www.nybloodcenter.org.
Feeding America
All donations will provide emergency food, water and supplies. To donate, visithttp://www.feedingamerica.org or call 800-910-5524.
All donations will provide medicine and other supplies to people affected by Hurricane Sandy. To donate, visit http://www.americares.org.
Save the Children
All donations will provide relief to families and their children. Visit http://www.savethechildren.orgto donate.
New York Cares
New York Cares is accepting volunteers, but is asking for those who have previously attended an orientation seminar. If that’s you, visit http://www.newyorkcares.org for more information. If you haven’t preregistered, text iCARE to 85944 to donate $10.
The Food Bank For New York City
You can help by donating money, food, or volunteering your time to serve hot meals. Text FBNYC to 50555 to make a donation from your mobile device

Six Days of Shoes

Week 2 of 2012… I didn’t get very creative in the shoe department – lots of basic black – but I think I made up for that with some bright BRIGHT clothes…

In other news – this post is late because I got caught up in an AWESOME football game. Like – seriously awesome. My Bay Area roots are very, very happy about it.
PS – did you hear I’m on Currently Obsessed? You can Stalk Me now {it’s like a dream come true, I know…}

Words to Live By…

I’m not big on resolutions – I feel like they just set you up to fail… that being said, we still all need goals in life; it’s hard to get somewhere if you don’t know where you’re going.

So maybe I’ll set a few goals for the year instead… {I don’t have them yet… but I’ll figure them out.}

And hey – even if I do end up some place else, it might be better there.

Bye-Bye 2011!!

My dear readers – thank you so much for sticking with me though a year full of changes! I am so grateful to have you all along for the ride. Hope that you’re night is full of glitter and glam! I’m very excited to wear my glittery dress – remember it?

Happy 2012!! What will you be wearing?

Thoughts on Starting Over

It was a hard choice – leaving my first blog to start this one. {OK and technically it wasn’t even my first blog. That honor goes to a livejournal gem full of emo poems and musings on college life… I’d share if it weren’t so embarrassing…er, I mean awesome.} Anyway – point is, it was hard to leave bug&Bear because I had a start there, a foundation that I’d build over a few years of posting. But it didn’t feel like me any more – I wasn’t excited about it. So I made the change.

And for the first few days I felt lost. Like I’d made a mistake, hadn’t made the switch perfectly, like I’d somehow let everyone down. And then a few things happened…

#1 – I started reading the lovely Ashlina’s fab e-book: Secrets of Style Blogging Success {do yourself a favor and read it!}
#2 – Bri put up this post over on DesignLoveFest
#3 – and I realized that I am not the only one who goes through this, we all start {and start again} somewhere.

From these amazing ladies I’m taking away a few lessons which I will try my very best to apply here.

Lesson 1Be Consistent: This one is the hardest fo me… something about anything resembling a routine bores me {yes, yes, I’m a Gemini.} So I’ll keep it fun AND consistant – maybe not a post every day but a least a few every week! Sound good?

Lesson 2Be Concise: This blog is about fashion and style – my style. That is what I will focus on, that is what you’ll always find here. {OK and maybe once and a while other things that I really, really like.}

Lesson 3Be Yourself: Another one that’s hard for me – silly, I know, but true. It’s scary to put yourself out there in such a public way. Scary to voice an opinion that other’s might not agree with. But without me, my blog is nothing but pretty pictures {which are nice, sure, but I’m more fun than that…}

So here is my promise to you all – I will do my very best to be consistent, concise and {above all} be myself.

Thank you for putting up with my musings on the state of my blog! What tips do you have for all the bloggers out there?
