Hall of Chic // HRH

I’m pretty sure Kate Middleton is a perfect human. Not only is she gorgeous, fashionable, married to a prince, and blessed with perfect hair – she also loves sailing. We’ve know this for a while, but her most recent public appearance was supporting youth sailing program (amazing), AND she wore a sail boat printed dress.

She’s basically my spirit animal.

(Again with the chic coats too!)

Obviously this dress – which is Somerset by Alice Temperley – is now sold out, though it does say “back in stock soon” so I will wait with bated breath.

In the meantime, I’ve rounded up a few other printed shift dresses/white coat combos for a copy-Kate look!

Capsule Wardrobe // Kate Middleton

As you may or may not know, I have a slight obsession with Kate Middleton’s style, so I thought she was the perfect choice to kick off my new Capsule Wardrobe series! Here’s the concept – I’ll take style icons (present & past!) and break down their wardrobes to the basic building blocks, the pieces you’d need to capture that particular icon’s signature look.

In the case of Duchess Kate, I focused on her more causal looks – not that her gala attire is not spectacular, but the every-day gal has little use for ball gowns (tragic, I know). I really wanted to look at the attainable pieces that make up her wardrobe. Her Icon status was contested this year (OUTRAGE, HORROR, BLASPHEMY) but to me, her tendency to dress “sensibly and practically” is what makes her an icon. She does simple and she does it well – consistently.

To copy Kate’s polished causal style you really only need a few things: great jeans, an assortment of blazers, wedges, and a sheath dress or two. Oh, and a coat – she. has. amazing. coats.

Row Five: 1 // 2 // 3 //  Shoes: 1 // 2 //  3 // 4 // 5

I think I might just stop my personal style search right here. What Would Kate Wear can just be my new mantra.

What do you think of Catherine’s style? Is her icon status deserved? What would you add to this capsule to make it your own? (I think she needs more pointy toe flats….)

Princess Lessons // Coats V2

Ok I admit it – I’ve done this post before. However – that was a while ago, and in the time that has passed since HRH has worn many additional chic coats. So I figured it was high time for Queen of Coats, V2.

I have serious closet envy. It’s not even that she has this many amazing coats – do you know how much room coats take up? I could never fit that many in my tiny apartment – even if I used all available space. She must have an entire wing at Kensington Palace dedicated solely to coat storage.

Here are just a few of my top selections from the  Kate Middleton coat collection – which are your favorites?

Color Me Kate

If you read this blog, chances are you are very much aware that Duchess Catherine has been giving a fashion show disguised as a tour of New Zealand and Australia. As if to apologize for her long absence from the public eye she has thrilled us with multiple outfits per-day, ranging from cute and casual to the ultimate of chic.
And she has not shied away from color on this trip. I’ve loved all her bold, bright numbers in blue, green, red – and even yellow. Wills allegedly told her she looked like a banana in the yellow dress below. That’s the chicest banana I’ve ever seen…

Want to be a copy-Kate? Here are a few of my top picks for dressing the the bright hue:

Obligatory Royal Baby Post [AKA] Does Duchess Catherine Ever Not Look Chic?

So let’s say that yesterday you spent roughly 10 hours in labor before giving birth to an 8 pound human child and now you are tasked with presenting that child to the entire world. How would you look? Happy, calm. collected and perfectly groomed? No way in hell.

Unless you’re Kate Middleton and you win at life. I don’t think she could have chosen a more perfect look. A custom Jenny Packham frock in baby-boy blue.
However, this begs the question – did she know she was having a boy? Or did she have 2 bespoke Jenny Packham dresses in her hospital room – one pink one blue. And if they HAD had a girl would Wills have worn a pink shirt?!? These are the questions that keep me up at night…

Princess Lessons // Pregnancy

I have to admit, when the news broke that the Duchess was preggers I was pretty bummed. Sure, babies are great and all, but a part of me mourned the loss of my fave fashion icon and inspiration. Luckily HRH has proven me wrong by wearing amazingly chic ensembles even while pregnant.

So here’s to 2 years of Princess fashion. Happy anniversary Will & Kate!

Get ready Chicasaurs, it’s time for a quick look at Alexander McQueen’s Pre-Fall collection… don’t blink! {kidding – you’re allowed to blink, it’ll play again ;)}
Thoughts, comments, concerns?

I love the colors and patterns and I’m drooling over the leather trim vest…. but I’m not sure the collection is Princess approved, I supposed Miss Kate gets to make her own alterations the pieces. We’ve seen her lengthen sleeves and do away with sheer paneling. BUT I’d DIE to see her in a pair of patterned pants…

Princess Lessons

Now that we are in full-on winter chill mode,  it’s time to do a little coat shopping. And who better to draw inspiration from than HRH The Duchess of Cambridge? She knows how to pick the most flattering winter wear, always appearing in ladylike numbers that chinch at the waist.
Here are a few Kate style coats to keep you warm & chic this winter.

How to Dress – Olympics with the Duchess

Alright, it’s official. The name of this blog is now Chicasaurus-Kate. Really –  if you need advice on how to be chic just type Kate Middleton into the closest web browser. Here she is at the Olympics. Looking perfect in a blazer, stripes and wedges…

She wore a similar look watching {well, trying to watch} swimming, but switched up the blue blazer for a red one and the stripes for dots.
You’d think that having a closet full of as many blazers as she does she wouldn’t mind lending a few to me, but for some reason she seems hesitant…. Really Kate? I thought we were BFF?

PS – I have just learned that the red blazer is from Zara. ZARA. KATE – I will let you borrow any of my Zara blazers, can I PLEASE borrow yours? Oh – and here she is doing 2 of my very favorite things – looking chic & watching sailing:
I mean really, who don’t we hang out every day??

Chic of the Week

So here is HRH Catherine Duchess of Cambridge getting into the Olympic spirit with a little soccer {er.. football} and some ping-pong. Princess or not, I’m seriously impressed with a lady who plays soccer in wedges and looks that chic playing ping-pong.

Oh also – her dress? It’s from Hobbs and is on sale for £35. Way to be Kate, that’s amazing.
