You may or may not remember this – but last spring I took the plunge into the world of leather jacket ownership, pretty life changing.  And since I was pleasantly surprised by one leather item I’ve been toying with the idea of expanding my leather ownership into other categories. And, after seeing some rather chic looks on the Spring Runways, I’ve been seriously considering the leather dress. Leather-AW15-3Narciso Rodriguez (1 & 2) // Belstaff // Fendi

I used to believe that leather dresses were only for floozies. However, it seems that I have just been blind to their potential for chicness. Take for example, Jennifer Aniston, no one would ever call her a floozie and she rocks leather dresses all the time (all the time!) Same with the rest of these ladies.

But I do think there are some limits to trend – not just any leather dress can look chic… Here are a few things I’m keeping in mind while searching for the right fit:

  1. Keep it Classy – since leather tends to err on the side of sexy, look for dresses with higher neck lines or sleeves to avoid looking like a floozie.
  2. Shape and structure – take a cue from Olivia Palermo  and try a shift dress or a boxy top for a fashion-forward style.
  3. The Details – if you’re not 100% ready to go leather, try a dress with leather trim or sleeves to add a little edgy flair.
