Spring 16 // Return of the Slip

Simplicity has been making a comeback lately. Classic silhouettes, solid colors, and simple styling have been catching my eye more and more. So it’s not that surprising that the iconic 90s slip-dress is making it’s way down fashion week’s runways again, even Zac Posen took a break from his signature structured looks and showed a breezy, relaxed collection, which included – you guessed it – a slip dress!

Quick history lesson – the slip dress first traveled down Calvin Klein’s runway in 1994 on Kate Moss and quickly became the “it-dress” of the decade.

Out of all the 1990s trends that have been resurfacing lately, the slip dress is one that I might be able to get behind. Especially when styled with scrappy sandals (instead of the sneakers of the 90s…)

What To Wear // In Transition

According to the calendar it is now spring. However, according to the weather it is still very much winter. This makes me sad. I am sick of the cold, and I am sick of all my winter clothes – so I dreamed up this little ensemble that’s bright and fun – like spring! But that will still look cute with a huge winter jacket, scarf and gloves {also a hat, and probably an umbrella}.

Thinking warm thoughts.

Lauren // Ralph Lauren

I think it is now, finally, safe to say that Spring is officially here. The days are longer than the nights, the high temp broke 60 in NYC yesterday and above all – baseball season has begun.

So let’s dive right in to Spring style!!

A couple weeks ago I attended the first ever runway show for Lauren Ralph Lauren – a fabulous fete at the Hearst Tower here in NYC.

I’m gonna be honest here – this line is pretty much the inspiration for everything I will wear this Spring. Everything. Everyday. Everywhere.

Dots, stripes and blazers. Done AND done.

What do you think? Actually – does it matter? Since I’m wearing everything everyday… find your own collection. 😉

Lessons in Spring from J Crew

Whenever the seasons change I run into trouble. I get so used to dressing for the previous season that I feel lost when the weather changes on me. Oh, it’s Spring now? Too warm for boots and sweaters? WHAT WILL I WEAR? It just gets traumatic.

I’m assuming that I’m not the only one who suffers form Seasonal Dressing Confusion {SDC} and luckily, help is available. This Spring it comes in the form of the J. Crew catalog, {who’s surprised?}

So – what have we learned? Chambray, stripes and bright, fresh hues should get us through the season. But since my bank account really hates it when I try to become an exact replica of the J. Crew catalog, here are a few other options to try out…
denim dress – tory burch {or try here, here & here} || blazer – mango || hat – J Crew {yah, yah… but it is just too cute!} || wedges – kelsi dagger || sweater – old navy || flats – pour la victorie

Real Life Style #14: Red-y for Spring!!

Guess what guys? The world is starting to feel downright springy! I know, I know, we still have a week or so before it is technically Spring, but when it’s warm enough to wear dresses without tights in NYC – Spring has sprung in my book. So, who’s ready to chic-it-up spring style with a classic LBD and a bright red blazer? Oh… that’s right, me!

PS: we don’t live in that building… it’s up the street from us, but, for real – how cute is that courtyard? Washington Heights is adorbs – which is why you should vote for me in Refinery29’s stylish neighborhood contest HERE! Yay! Thanks! 🙂

P is for Pretty

Elie Saab always gets me. His Spring Ready to Wear collection wowed on and off the runway. He took the colors the other direction for his Spring Couture collection – going from bright, bright, bright to pretty, pretty pale.

I love the details of this collection. The little bow belts, the sleeves and sheer layers. Can you say Oscars?? {please please please please please!?!}

This is Karl Lagerfeld’s take on saggy jeans and slouchy sweatshirts. With dropped waists, stretched necklines and pretty much every shade of blue – he makes slouchy super chic.

I can’t get enough of the structured royal blue number with the sparkly blue shoes – it’s a little Pan Am, but it works.

Color Report– Spring 2011

One of my favorite parts of Fashion Week is getting to see Pantone’s Color Report for the upcoming season. It is always refreshing and inspirational to see new color combos– spring is pretty spectacular…

How much fun is that? Fresh and funky–and at the same time reminiscent of a set of Crayola markers I used to own {who are we kidding, I still have them…}

Same thing right? I’m excited to see these colors worked into collections on the runway–looks like it’s going to be a playful spring!
PS- I can’t wait to tell people that “Regatta” is my new favorite color…

Spring in New York

I finally visited the High Line. Beautiful day.

I love exploring the city… I should really find time to do it more. 🙂

Style Notebook-the challenge

For some reason I love to “re-define” my style every spring. I think it is just a fancy excuse to go shopping.  This year, however, I do not have much room in my budget for the re-definition project. SO the goal is to find inspirations from designer collection and then find look-a-like pieces for cheap.
Today’s challenge? See by Chloe Summer 10

I really love this whole collection, it is the perfect mix of polish and casual ease–just what I need in my life.
 Stay tunned for my budget friendly interpretation… 🙂
